1. Integrity and Accountability
Student government should operate with honesty, transparency, and responsibility. Leadership is strongest when decisions are made ethically and with accountability to the students we serve.
2. Responsible Decision-Making
Policies should be approached carefully and collaboratively, with consideration for their long-term impact on students, organizations, and campus life. Good leadership listens first and acts intentionally.
3. Respect for Tradition and Community
The University’s history, traditions, and mission help shape the community we share today. Progress is strongest when it builds thoughtfully upon the foundation laid by past student leaders and the Holy Cross tradition.
4. Commitment to Human Dignity
As leaders at a Catholic and Holy Cross university, we should strive to promote compassion, service, and care for the whole person in all areas of campus life.
5. Excellence in Leadership
Student leaders should hold themselves to high standards of preparation, professionalism, and service. Leadership is not about status, but about earning trust through hard work and dedication.
6. Stewardship of Student Prosperity
Every student should have the opportunity to thrive academically, socially, and professionally. ASUP should support initiatives that strengthen student success while responsibly stewarding student resources.
7. Devotion to the UP Community
The University of Portland is a unique and deeply connected community. Student government should foster school spirit, meaningful traditions, and a strong sense of belonging for all students.
8. Sustainable and Collaborative Progress
Lasting change is built through collaboration, consistency, and institutional understanding. Effective leadership balances ambition with practicality to create reforms that endure beyond a single administration.
